Powder Mill Coffee Co
Specialty coffee roasted in Pathhead
Our story
Powder Mill Coffee Co. is a specialty coffee roastery based in Midlothian, founded by us, Andy and Chiara. We're partners in life and in business, building something rooted in the belief that coffee can connect people, place, and the everyday rituals that bring us together.
We first met over a cup of specialty coffee, and a couple of years later found ourselves building a life in Gorebridge, where Andy grew up. It made sense to us that coffee would become such a big part of our lives!
Our name comes from the gunpowder mills that once stood in Gorebridge, part of the area's industrial landscape long before coal became its defining story. It's a nod to that history and a way of keeping our roots firmly connected to the place we both now call home. Before starting Powder Mill, we both worked in the food and craft beer industries. Those experiences shaped our values and gave us a clear idea of the kind of business we wanted to build.
Today, our roastery is based on a working farm in Pathhead, a daily reminder of place, pace, and perspective. Andy, an engineer by trade, brings precision and attention to detail to every roast, overseeing sourcing, production, and quality. Chiara is our creative thinker behind sales, marketing, and building relationships with our customers and community. Together, we're growing Powder Mill Coffee Co. with the same care that goes into every batch we roast.
We love specialty coffee, but we don't believe enjoying great coffee should feel complicated. You don't need to know all the tasting notes, own the latest espresso machine, or have the perfect brewing setup. If you enjoy drinking our coffee and it makes your day a little better, that sounds good to us! We roast coffee that is made to be enjoyed every day.
Our goal is to build a sustainable coffee company that creates positive change throughout the coffee supply chain. We source responsibly, roast with care using our 5kg Diedrich roaster, and believe every great cup should reflect the people behind it from the farmers who grow it to the people who brew it at home.
Whether you're discovering specialty coffee for the first time or have been brewing it for years, we're glad you're here on this journey with us!
