The Midlothian Edit is a small, independent site. This page explains what we store and why, without the legal padding.
Business listings
Listings are submitted by the businesses themselves, or by us with their permission. A listing contains the business name, a description, the town, category, opening hours, and any contact details the business chooses to share, such as a phone number, email, website or Instagram handle. This is published so people can find and contact the business.
If you own a listing and want something changed or removed, message us on Instagram or by email and we will do it.
Accounts
Business owners can sign in to claim and edit their listing. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, a Google service. We store your email address and the listing you are linked to. We do not store passwords ourselves.
Where data lives
The site runs on Google Firebase. Listings, stories, events, claims and suggestions are stored in Firebase databases, and photos in Firebase Storage. Google’s own privacy terms apply to that infrastructure.
Cookies and analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which towns and categories people look at. It does not use cookies, does not store anything on your device, and does not identify you personally. There are no advertising trackers on this site.
Links to other sites
Business pages link out to Instagram, websites and Google Maps. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
